Before starting the design process, the most important thing is to understand how the kitchen is going to be used. This is a basic approach that any architect must take. A kitchen can’t be just a leftover space or a space to be defined at the end of a project. Designers must understand that a kitchen has various flows and different work areas that need to be integrated throughout the entire project. |

Pure + FreeForm in collaboration with ZGF Architects received the 2019 Refurbishment in Architecture Award for the Expensify office in Portland, OR. ZGF partnered with Expensify to design an interior that reflects the company’s signature “choose-your-own-adventure” work setting, paying homage to the company’s beginnings working in coffee shops and, later, out of a San Francisco office with no assigned seating. The main goal was to balance the space needs of the client and the historical importance of the building by referencing the historic details and proportions. The Hampton Brass finish was chosen as the connecting detail between the contemporary and the historical to clad the glass enclosed work spaces and used in backsplashes through the space.
Cosentino, company that produces and distributes innovative high-value surfaces for the world of architecture and design, such as Silestone® and Dekton® has become the first company, both in its sector and worldwide, to obtain ISO 20400:2017 certification as in accordance with the guidelines of the International Federation of Purchasing and Supply Management (IFPSM). This achievement recognizes the responsible management and strict principles of sustainability of the Purchasing Department of this Spanish company for its whole area of influence, both at home and abroad.
Zumtobel is keen to support the use of good design to provide better spaces in which to work and live, whilst celebrating the achievements of a wide diversity of architectural talent. Zumtobel provided their surface mounted PLAZA 10 and PLAZA 20 luminaires for the event to highlight the constructions and show them under the best possible light. Architect Junya Ishigami is delighted on such collaboration commenting that “Working with Zumtobel is a pleasure because of their approach. Always trying to push the limit on what lighting can do yet with a distinct subtlety. For the Pavilion, their lights accentuate the different nuances of colours that each stone has to offer.” |
